The story behind Elme

When every brand says
the same thing.

At some point it doesn't matter who's lying and who's not.

The founder

My name is Karunesh Birdi.
A guy in women's fashion.

Honestly, I couldn't be more scared.

I don't want to change the world. The world is too big, I'd be lying if I said that. I want to impact the next person. One at a time.

Where it started

My mom was diagnosed with cancer when I was 16. The chemo took her hair first, then her youthfulness, then her energy, and her jewelry too.

I asked her where the earrings she always wore went. She said they're not skin-friendly.

I looked it up. Huge rabbit hole.

I learned about copper, zinc, nickel, the pink tax. Her jewelry was marketed as hypoallergenic. Still bothered her skin. Why did she pay that much for something she couldn't even trust? It felt quietly frustrating.

The research

So I went to
the manufacturers.

Asked for catalogs, samples, brochures. Paid for it with my allowance. Made a mess on my desk: plastic, bubble wrap, cardboard.

Found moissanite in the catalog. Ordered the same piece in CZ and moissanite side by side. Day and night.

I shared my top picks with friends first. Wanted real hands-on feedback before the big reveal. Then I shared with my mom.

The look on her face. That's when it just appeared. You are the jewel. Not the jewelry. Her.

What made me stop sitting on it

Every jewelry ad
pissed me off.

I kept Elme casual at first. I was scared. A man in a space built for women. I'm still scared, honestly.

But every time I sat down and saw another jewelry ad, it pissed me off. Stacks of ten pieces called minimalism. "Savings" that disappear the second the chain breaks. Fine print saying brass with plated silver, priced like solid gold. Vague words doing more work than the product ever could.

That anger didn't go away, so I stopped sitting on it.

The Elme position

You are the jewel.
Not the jewelry.

Solid sterling, nothing hiding underneath. Moissanite. Rhodium finish. Free tarnish cleanups for life. 14-day returns, no questions.

What that means in practice

The Elme standard.

01 Solid sterling silver

Nothing hiding underneath. No brass cores. No plating that fades in a month. What you see is what the piece is made of.

02 Moissanite

Not CZ. Not glass. Real moissanite, the stone I tested side by side and chose on merit, not margin.

03 Free tarnish cleanups for life

Not a policy. A promise. Because if I'm not confident enough to back it, I shouldn't be selling it.

04 14-day returns. No questions.

I wish you never buy from me again, not because it's bad. Because I wish it never cheats you the way the other brands did.

You are the jewel.
Wear less and be more.
